It is a production, presentation, discussion and archival center for contemporary images. It's Media Library has over 800 titles. Exhibitions, Videoscreenings: The Centre pour l'Image Contemporaine organizes 6 exhibitions a year on 2 floors, and video projections of artists' tapes every wednesday and Thursday evening. Among the exhibitions held in the past 5 years: Egven Bavcar, Jean-Louis Boissier, Gary Hill, Catherine Ikam, Marcel Odenbach, Nam June Paik, Hiroshi Sugimoto, Beat Streuli, Bill Viola, etc. International Video week: the 1st biennial festival was held in Nov. 85, the 6th in Nov. 96. For 10 years, this festival has been a major event for exchanges between artists, videomakers, museums, cultural institutions and the public. The programme usually consists of: artists' retrospectives, competition of videotapes, exhibitions and special programmes poresented by curators, seminars and lectures on or by artists presented during the week. Media Library: The Center has a very important collection of digital or video works by artists. More than 800 videos and cd-rom can be seen on request by the public. Editions: The Centre pour l'Image Contemporaine regularly publishes books and catalogues on the events and shows, but also editions on and with artists. Production: The Center is a unique production place in switzerland: artists are invited to make tapes or cd-rom in the studios, with the assistance of a technician. In house studios: 2 editing video studios (Beta and U.matic), 1 computer room (5 Macs and PC's), 1 photo studio, 3 photo labs. Seminars and conferences: on the ocasion of shows or events, the Center organizes series of lectures and discussion with personnalities of art and media world. sgg*Theatre has 2 theaters (70 and 200 seats), an average of 20 events every year dealing about theater, politics and/or litterature. |
